Companies Act 2006 – key things to know

Don’t forget the Companies Act 2006 is changing the law for companies.  Some changes have already happened. For more information go to  www.companieshouse.gov.uk/act.  Here’s what’s happening from 1 October 2009:-

  • A director’s residential address will automatically become the service address (available to the public). If you want a different service address e.g. registered address – you will be able to change online
  • All Companies House accounts filing deadlines reduced by one month
  • Changes to arrangements for inspecting a company’s registers
  • Easier to set up a company
  • Change to articles for new companies – to include company’s objects & liabilities (from memorandum)
  • Notifying article changes – amendments must be sent within 15 days to avoid possible penalties and a criminal offence
